PART – A
The activities planned for the college IQAC during 2007-08 was continued in the academic year 2008-09. As in the previous year, the thrust was on Faculty development, community services, research, students’ counseling and guidance. The NSS Units enthusiastically went ahead with social service as well as community service during 2008-09.
PART - B
1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:
Special lectures for the benefit of students, arranging seminars, special lectures and workshops:
The Political Science department arranged 2 seminars and a work shop on human rights.
The Commerce and Management Department arranged a State Level Seminar on 8-4-2009, a Guest Lecture on Project Report and talk on GD & PI Skills. As part of Skill Development visit to VISP and MPM was also arranged.
The Dept. of History conducted a Seminar on Recent Trends in History on 20-08-2008 and on the importance of excavation on 22-04-2009.
The Dept. of English arranged the screening of the film “SlumDog Millionaire“ followed by a special lecture on it by Prof. David Bond, visiting professor of English at Kuvempu University. An add-on course in Communicative English was conducted for 3 months from February to April – 2009.
The Urdu Department conducted a seminar with the collaboration of Sanskrit Department.
Two Seminars had been arranged by the Dept of Sociology on Caste and religion and Social Justice and Privatization respectively. Dr. Sakkri Naik presented a paper at a State Level Seminar in Sociology. In collaboration with Kannada Department the Sociology Department hosted a Symposium on critics on the book “Papa Nivedane” .
The Kannada Dept. arranged a State Level Symposium in addition to a workshop for the students and four special lectures. The Dept. also encouraged students to conduct class room seminars and write assignments.
2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG):
The Govt. has given the green signal to our institution to start Four P.G. Courses in History, Kannada, Political Science and Commerce and Management respectively. Approval of the University is awaited.
3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:
The College abides by the Rules and Regulations of the University in matters of curriculum .

The Examinations take place in accordance with University regulations.

7. Initiative towards faculty development programme :
A member of the Faculty from the Kannada Department underwent training at Special Summer School. An English Lecturer attended the Orientation Programme for Lecturers in Mysore. Two Lecturers from the Political Science Department underwent Administrative Training at ATI in Mysore. One of them had training in Computer Applications as well. Three Faculty members of Commerce Department attended Refresher Courses.

9. Research projects a) Newly implemented: Smt. Vidya M. Joseph has taken up a Minor Research Project in English. Prof. Gangaraj of Economics Department is pursuing research for Ph.D., while a Faculty member of Urdu is pursuing M.Phil., Degree.
b) Completed: Mr. Kiran, M. and Mr. B.K. Vishwachandra have been awarded M.Phil. degrees. Mr. G.S. Sakkrinaik was honored with a Doctorate for his work on Tribes and Social Change – “A Sociological Study of Lambani Community”.
The Dept. of Kannada added a feather to its cap when Smt. T,.C,. Bharathi was awarded Ph.D., degree. Smt. Irine Dias of Commerce Department and Mr. M. Chandranaik of Economics Department were awarded the M.Phil., degrees.

-Rs. 9000/- were collected from the students who attended the add-on course in Communicative English.
Entry fee was collected by the Dept. of Commerce for the State Level Seminar from participants.

NSS Units of our college conducted the following programmes during 2008-09 :
a. AIDS awareness programme at Arakere Special Camp,
b. Pulse Polio programme with the assistance of PHC , Bhadravati.
c. Painting of BCM Hostel at Kallihal village.
d. Afforestation programme in the college.
e. Women empowerment programme at DVS College, Shimoga
f. Voluntary service during the NGO’s State Level Conference held in Shimoga.
g. The Annual NSS Camp was held in Arakere Village from 9th February to 15th February 2009. Among other things weeds were removed from the tank in the village and drainage work was undertaken.

All the Departments have received new additions to the Library Books collection. The total number of books bought for library for this year is 2799 and 26 Journals also have been subscribed. The total amount spent on these books is
Rs. 3,23,543/-
23. Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the action taken on student feedback:
The Teachers of all the Three Courses offered by the college Viz., BA/B.Com. and BBM are assessed by the students. The feed back is examined and necessary instructions given to the teachers if required.

Salary drawn by the staff plus maintenance cost divided by no. of students studied.
= 12,060/- (Unit Cost)
25. Computerization of administration and the process of admissions and examination results, issue of certificates:
a) Administration process is fully computerized.
b) Process of admissions is also fully computerized. The names and details of students admitted are profiled. Results after each semester exams are computerized and records maintained by each department.
26. Increase in the infrastructural facilities:
The Govt. of Karnataka has sanctioned the construction of a New Library Building and it is coming up at a brisk pace. Renovation of the existing college building and creation of spacious staff rooms was also undertaken this year.
27. Technology up gradation:
Six new computers were added to the store of computers available in the college. Each department will soon be provided with the Computer facility.
28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students:
Computer access is easy for students and staff in the campus and the faculty is taking voluntary interest in computer training.
29. Financial aid to students:
Students are able to get the benefit of financial assistance through Scholarships given by the Govt. and those offered by the college.
30. Support from the Alumni Association and its activities.
The Alumni Association meets two times a year to discuss and implement programmes like career advancement and arranging special lectures.
31 Support from the Parent-Teacher Association and its activities;
The parents are also important stake holders of the Institution. As such their inputs and contributions are highly valued. They meet twice in a Semester and suggest improvements in college discipline and administration.
32. Health services:
Heatlh Services – Aids awareness programme and Pulse Polio Programmes were arranged by the NSS Units. Special Lectures by doctors had been arranged as well. Dr. Harish, the famous psychiatrist spoke on Stress Management during the examinations . Dr. Veena Bhat and Dr. Jayashree dealt with the problems of adolescent girls in their inter-action with the girl students of our college.
33. Performance in sports activities:
The Boys table tennis team of our college won the Third place in the University level Inter-collegiate tournament in Chitradurga.
Adhithya B. Hegde of II B.A., bagged the First place in the Inter-collegiate power lifting championships. He lifted a total weight of 650 kgs. In the 67KG category.
The Boys Handball team won the Inter-collegiate hand ball tournament held in Sagar on 23rd and 24th Sept. 2008.

34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons:
The Sports persons are provided with Uniforms and Colours when selected to represent the college. The TA and DA expenses are met by the Institution. Winners are given special incentives by the sports department.

Four students of Commerce have received LOI from Cambridge solutions, Shimoga after qualifying for placement. A B.Com. student has cleared the CA entrance examination. Miss. Kavitha Thotad of II BA attended the National Level NSS adventure camp held in Kulu Manali. Many students are pursuing their studies at the P.G. level. Four students of Optional Kannada attended the Week-Long “Neenasam Cultural Camp”.
36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit:
The Unit encourages students to overcome their emotional crises as and when they need it. Doctors and experts address them regularly to advise about their personal problems.

Campus selection was done by Cambridge Solutions of Shimoga in association with the placement cell of our college.
38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff:
The Non-teaching staff are encouraged to undergo computer training as it is essential in view of the Govt’s decision to do away with paper work in offices.
The Office Manager Sri. Gangappa underwent training at ATI, Mysore in October 2008.
39. Best practices of the institution:
The Department of Kannada has an MOU with two cultural associations who initiate programmes on cultural exchange of views. The Sanskrit department conducts Sanskrit speaking classes under the banner of “Samskrit Bharathi” also Samskrita Sandhya Kendra conducts evening classes in Sanskrit since 2006.

PART - C
Detail the plans of the institution for the next year.
The Institution is gearing up to grab with both hands the opportunity of starting PG courses in History, Political Science , Kannada and Commerce. We are also awaiting approval of the UGC to start the certificate courses for which a request has been already made. The students from the Sociology department would continue their annual visits to the Jails, Old age homes and Offices of Grama Panchayats. More career guidance programmes are planned for the year. Campus selection would be arranged as before. Seminars are going to be arranged on contemporary issues by all the departments.

IQAC ANNUAL REPORT – 2007-08 PART – A
The IQAC planned in the beginning of the year 2007-08 to continue activities in addition to the academic work. The involved attempts towards faculty development, increasing community services, promoting research activities, subscribing new books and journals, greater thrust to activities under students counseling and guidance .
By the end of the year a great deal of the planned actions were achieved. NSS Volunteers continued their community service with greater enthusiasm, more and more members of the faculty took up research activities and students are getting the benefit of counseling and guidance.

A Compound wall is newly constructed, furniture is purchased, water cooler is donated by the Corporation Bank, Jannapura Branch, Bhadravati. Computers and Inter-coms are installed. Xerox machines , LCD,OHP,Fax machine added to the facilities

Many new sets of computers and Inter-coms were installed, New Xerox machine and Fax System were introduced for upgrading technology.

The benefit of various scholarships has been extended as in previous years.

The Association meets twice in a semester and gives valuable suggestions towards better administration.
32. Health services:
Heatlh Services – Aids awareness programme was conducted and the annual Blood Donation Camp was organized this year also. Blood Group detection camp is conducted annually. First aid facilities are available to the students in the campus when needed. A medical officer visits the campus once a week. Matters relating to health, hygiene and adolescence are discussed during the special lectures by doctors.

a) Kum. Nethravathi : Participated in the International Junior Power Lifting Championship held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
b)) Rakhal took part in the National Level Hand Ball Meet.
c) Riyaz Ahmed –III BA., has been seeded 13th at the State Level by the Karnataka State Badminton Association, having represented the University and the State in various competititions.
d) Aditya .B. Hegde II-BA has participated in the senior national power lifting championship
34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons:
The Teaching and Non-teaching staff donated Rs. 10,000/- to Kum. Nethravathi to meet a part of her expenses for participation in the Junior Inter National power lifting competition held in South Africa. The colors and uniforms are given to Sports persons selected to represent the college. Winners in various events are duly felicitated.

a) Sahana of Final BA HEP has bagged a Rank in the Final BA examination of Kuvempu University – held during 2007-08.
b) Komala of Final BA has been awarded NSS state Best Volunteer during 2006-07
c) Kum. Kavyashree has been selected to the NCC Camp held in New Delhi.
d) Sri. Arun Kumar, II BA has been selected to the NSS Pre-RD Camp held at Udupi during 2007-08.
e) Campus Selection : Five students were selected by Bangalore firm Progean.
36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit:
The cell has been active for the past three years. Many students have been benefitted from the service of our cell. Many experts and trained Doctors in the field visit our college, regularly.
37. Placement services provided to students:
The placement Cell is very much active in the college. Officials from the Kuvempu University advised our students on the topic ‘What next after graduation?’. Further a subsidiary unit of Infosys, Progean has been regularly visiting our college for campus selection

Sri. Gangappa, Gazetted Manager of our college was deputed to the Central Office in Bangalore for Administrative Training.
The Non-teaching staff is eligible to undergo training ATI in Mysore. The staff is encouraged to undergo this training as and when selected.

Class Room Seminars, arranging special lectures by resource persons and conducting remedial classes. Modern teaching aids like – LCD, computers and Inter-net facilities are made use of for the case studies prepared, following industrial visits.

PART - C
Detail the plans of the institution for the next year.
The Departments of Kannada, Political Science, Economics and Sociology plan to conduct State level Seminars on Contemporary Issues. The English Department proposes to arrange remedial classes on communicative English while the department of History would arrange an exhibition of Old Coins and Antiquities and undertake renovation work at the famous Narasimha Swamy temple in Bhadravati. The Economics Department also wishes to conduct an Inter-collegiate planning Symposium /Quiz . Students of Sociology will pay visits to the Jails, Old -age homes and Offices of Gramapanchayats . The Departments of Commerce and Management are going to arrange a career guidance programme with special lectures on Income tax and Auditing. The institution shall arrange some more campus selection programmes in the coming years.
